A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
My review
rating: 3 of 5 stars
I gave it 3 stars just because it was a bit of a downer. I do realize this is just how life is over there, but sometimes I like to be naive and think that life is happy and joyful. Seriously though, this book is a great reality check and makes me feel very blessed to have been born in a country where women are free to do whatever they dream. I'm glad it took a twist towards the end of the book or else I don't think I would have liked it. In fact, I almost stopped listening (book on tape) to it in the middle because I was feeling very hopeless for the main characters. This is a great book for anyone interested in middle eastern culture, especially the effect on women.

I agree the book is dark, but the author is fabulous. I think a good author is one that makes you feel emotion good or bad. This book is full of emotions, that's for sure.
