We're mourning the loss of our beloved mom and grandma this weekend. Grandma Haacke returned to our heavenly home early Saturday morning after a 2 year fight with cancer. She amazed us with her strength and independence up until the last week of her life, and thankfully, she didn't have to suffer long. These are a few of my favorite memories:
*We loved playing games! We played war with her giant face cars, burn the house down (I always loved the little people she drew), pick up sticks (She always won with her long fingernails), Xmas tree game and chutes and ladders (tom & jerry style)
*We used the jc penny catalogs to make paper dolls. Grandma showed us how to make slits in the beds so they could go to sleep
*Every year, when we were little, she would take us birthday shopping and then out to lunch. Hardees was my favorite place to eat. As we got older, we'd skip the shopping and just have a nice lunch together.
*BINGO! One of my favorite holidays for the sole reason we have a BINGO party every year and Grandma would buy us all prizes. We were allowed 2 wins. The prizes were sometimes a little interesting, but how can you not love them when it came from her!
*Bubble gum and sixlets
It's a bittersweet time. I love feeling the closeness of family and the Lord's tender mercies. Most of all, I'm grateful for the gospel and the knowledge that we will see her again someday.

Shan, sorry to hear about the loss of your Grandma. It's so true what you said about the Gospel though.
Oh, Shanlee. I am so sorry to hear about your Grandma. I know how much you cared for her and how much you enjoyed her "games." I still remember laughing about the "prizes" at the bingo games with you. I know she has been sick for a while, but that doesn't make it any easier.
All our love to you two and to Margo and Ron.
ditto to what Dad said. I'm so sorry. If there's anything I can do . . . like babysit for the funeral or viewing or anything, please let me know. Our love to your family . . .
Shan, my mom called and told me about your Grandma a few days ago. I'm so sorry. What a sweet tribute!
We're praying for you guys.
I am sorry for your loss, and the timing too. You will be in my prayers. Miss you!
What a sweet post shan. I'm sorry to hear that. Grandmas and elderly people in general are so wise! Consider yourself very blessed to have spent so much time and memories with her. She sounds so fun and special.
